Herbalife’s Formula 1 Nutritious Mixed Soy Powder Drink has been tested to be Low GI*. Glycemic Index (GI) is a measurement carried out on carbohydrate containing foods and their impact on our blood sugar.
The glycemic index (GI) is a ranking of carbohydrates on a scale from 0 to 100 according to the extent to which they raise blood sugar levels after eating. Low GI foods, by virtue of their slow digestion and absorption, produce gradual rises in blood sugar and insulin levels.
Most healthcare organizations use a “high,” medium” and “low” rating system for GI. Using this system, foods get classified in the following way, and Herbalife shake is 15-20 which is in the low GI range.
In our Nutrition Club and our Healthy Active Lifestyle Activity, the customer will be introduced to the Low GI food and concept.
These are the question that my customer normally will ask:
Question 1. How is GI determined for Formula 1?
In order to determine the GI value for Formula 1 (F1), clinical studies were conducted using human subjects. Subjects were tested in a fasted state before receiving a serving of F1 at the labeled recommended serving size. Blood sugar readings collected periodically after the subjects had consumed F1 to monitor changes in glucose levels.
Question 2. Does the GI increase with serving size? If I consume 2 servings of Formula 1, does the GI double?
No, serving size does not impact GI of a given food. GI in Formula 1 remains the same when the serving size is increased from 1 to 2 servings.
Question 3. How does the GI affect the consumer? Is lower the better? Will there be any difference in the way my body absorbs the nutrients?
The GI of a food is not necessarily indicative of the overall nutritional value of a food. Individuals should look at the complete nutritional composition of a food to determine if it is suitable.
Question 4. Can I use low GI food while I am trying to lose weight?
Yes, many low GI foods are suitable in weight management. However, there are few things one should keep in mind when using low GI foods while trying to lose weight. For instance, it is still important to watch portion sizes and overall caloric intake when consuming a low GI food. Incorporating regular physical activity is also important in weight management. In other words, low GI does not equate to low calories and optimal weight management may best be achieved through a healthy active lifestyle. In addition, it is important that individuals with health conditions consult their healthcare provider prior to changing their diet or engaging in physical activity
