Skin Types

Oily, dry, combination€¦ these are all words to describe our skin type. Sometimes it may seem a bit difficult to determine your skin type. There are a few simple rules that can put you on the best path for your ideal skincare regimen.

It’s important to identify your skin type to ensure that you are using the best products for your personal needs. Most people fall into the oily or dry category but it’s essential to remember that your skin type can change rapidly and regularly.

There are internal factors that contribute to the condition of our skin, including diet as well as external factors, such as weather, exposure to the sun and your current skincare routine.

Even going from a hot humid climate into a well air-conditioned room can affect your skin type. These reasons are why you need to take care of your skin on a daily basis. The worst thing you can do for your skin is to not do anything.

If you want to know if your skin is on the dry side, look for the following:

  • Dry flakey patches
  • Uneven skin tone that has a dull appearance
  • Smaller pores

Excess oil builds up in the T-zone area€” forehead, nose, chin and cheeks. This is where excess oil, also known as sebum, will be most noticeable.

Oily skin has the following traits:

  • Pores are more visible
  • Fine lines and wrinkles are less noticeable

No matter what your skin type, a healthy skincare regimen coupled with good nutrition can help you achieve great looking and feeling
skin. Always reevaluate your skin on a regular basis to make sure the skincare products you are using are right for you.

DRY
If your skin is dry, you need a hydrating cleanser. Be sure to use moisturizer with SPF every morning and every night before bedtime. Exfoliate on a regular basis to help remove dead skin cells. This will give your skin a healthy glow and allow skin care products to penetrate more effectively, providing you with much needed moisture.

OILY
When your skin is oily you need to choose the right cleanser to help remove and control sebum levels. Toning skin is also important because it also supports removing excess surface oils, while using a mask weekly can help to improve the appearance of pores.

People with oily skin may find it necessary to cleanse their skin more than twice a day to help diminish sebum levels.

COMBINATION
For those who believe their skin is more €œcombination€ than normal, choose the cleanser that targets the condition that is most concerning, oiliness or dryness, and follow the remainder of your skincare routine as directed.

Weekly use products, such as exfoliating scrubs and masks, can be used to treat your entire face or only in areas that require their
assistance.
